Calendula comes in at #2 on my list of favorite herbs! Like lavender, calendula is not only a beautiful plant but is extremely versatile in its medicinal uses.

Calendula is native to southern Europe but it naturalized and cultivated in other countries like North America, Europe and Africa. Here is your Calendula 101:

Calendula (Calendula officinalis) has been used medicinally for centuries. Treating burns, rashes, cold sores, yeast rashes, vaginal infections, anal fissures & hemorrhoids, abrasions, stings, & healing wounds are some of the numerous ways calendula can be used as a topical treatment.

Those struggling with eczema, allergies, respiratory infections, colds & flu have had much success using calendula topically and internally. Calendulas’ effectiveness in wound treatment comes from its antifungal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory properties that induces the sweating and stimulating of the lymph to detoxify the wound. It also speeds healing and facilitates new skin growth. It has also been proven effective in combating staphylococcus bacteria that cause skin infections that over time have become resistant to antibiotics.

Calendula is widely used in teas, tonics, broths, beverages, tinctures, skin care products, poultices and cooking.

Our Baby Line, Miracle Line and Anti-Aging Face Cream all contain the skin healing benefits of calendula.

It was a “must have” herb to incorporate into the herbal blends handcrafted for each of these product lines. As always, I encourage you to do your own research, speak with your physician or holistic healthcare practitioner to discuss the amazing benefits and uses of calendula. This plant is much more than a beautiful addition to a fresh flower bouquet, it is a wonderful addition to your family's health care remedies!
